Whether you have been using your fire pit for some time or you have just begun using it, you may see black smoke or soot develop. Some of our customer's first instincts are: "This can't be right!" And in some cases, the smoke or soot seen, is excessive. In most cases though, soot is normal for gas burning fire pits.
Here are some things to check on your Beton fire pit that can cause excessive smoke or soot:
Possible Cause 1: Hose from gas fireplace is pinched.
- Solution: Make sure the hose is not pinched between the fire table and the source of the gas.
Possible Cause 2: Flame is being obstructed at burner ports.
- Solution: Make sure that the gas ports on the burner are free of any lava rock or other media so that the flame can flow naturally.
You will see very little to no smoke or soot if the burner ports are not obstructed (and cause #1 is solved).
Now Keep in mind, you can cover your burner ports like you see below, but the burning of Propane or Natural Gas will speed up the amount of soot you will see.
